This video will teach you how to knit the stockinette stitch. The Stockinette stitch is the most common knitting pattern and is used in everything from scarves to sweaters to socks. It produces a two sides fabric that is soft with amazing drape. It is one of the first patterns most beginning knitters should learn.

Abbreviation: st st

Also known as: stocking stitch

Skill: Beginner

Cast On: Any number of stitches

For this pattern you will need to know the following techniques:

Knit – k

Purl – p

Pattern:

Row 1: Knit all stitches.

Row 2: Purl all stitches.

Repeat rows 1-2 until you have reached your desired length.

After a few repeats your pattern should look like this:
