Also known as: seaming, grafting.
Step 1: Take a darning or tapestry needle pre threaded with yarn and insert it into the bottom corner of one of the pieces you are seaming. Insert going from the wrong side to the right side of the fabric.
Step 2: Pull the yarn through, leaving about six inches, bring the needle around to the wrong side again. Insert the needle into the same hole you first put the needle through and pull tight. This will lock the yarn in place.
Step 3: Take your needle and pick up the two ladders together between the first and second row, going vertical, on the opposite piece of fabric.
Step 4: Pull tight and take your needle and pick up the next two ladders together between the first and second row, going vertical, on the opposite piece of fabric.
Repeat steps 3-4 until you have seamed all the stitches together.

I was watching the video on mattress stitch and noticed that when you cross the yarn to the other fabric you need to go into the same place where you finished the stitch on the original side to start the next stitch. I hope that makes sense. I love your videos. They are so professional and very clear. Each video has the same format and so they are easy to follow. The photography is excellent. Keep up the good work.
Can you do some videos on hairpin and broomstick lace?
I’m not really sure what your comment is in reference to. Is that not what we did?
We have already done a video on crochet broomstick lace. You can find it here.
We probably won’t be doing any hairpin lace soon.
Love your videos & they have helped my confidence & skill with knitting. The only problem that I have with this video is the music playing when you are demonstrating the mattress stitch. The music is very distracting & at times makes it hard to hear what you are saying. Could you please fix this video? Thanks!
We no longer use music in the background in our new videos, but we’re not going to go back and change this one.
