TECHNIQUES USED IN THIS STITCH:

Chain Stitch – Ch
Single Crochet-sc
Double Crochet-dc
Shell- [(dc, ch 1) 3 times, dc] in st indicated

Single Crochet Spike(sc spike)- insert hook into st indicated 1 row below last, yo and pull up loop around previous row, yo, draw through loops on hook.

Skill: Intermediate
Foundation Chain: Multiple of 6 sts + 2.

Pattern Instructions

1. Row 1

   (Wrong Side): sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, *sc in next ch, ch 3, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, skip 3 ch; rep from * across to last 5ch, sc in next ch, ch 3, skip 1ch, sc in next ch, ch 1, sc in last ch, turn.

2. Row 2

   ch 1, sc in sc, *shell in next ch 3 sp, sc spike over next ch 3 sp (skip 1ch on foundation row) and in next ch on foundation row; rep from * across; sc in last sc, turn.

3. Row 3

   ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1 sp), sc in next ch 1 sp, *ch 3, skip ch 1 sp, sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch 1 sp; rep from * across to last 2 ch 1 sps, ch 3, skip next ch 1 sp, sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, dc in last sc, turn.

4. Row 4

   ch 3 (counts as dc), [dc, ch 1, dc] in dc, *sc spike over ch 3 sp and in ch 1 sp 1 row below, shel in ch 3 sp; rep from * across to last ch 3 sp, sc spike over ch 3 sp and in ch 1 sp 1 row below, [dc, ch 1, 2dc] in 3rd ch of tch, turn.

5. Row 5

   ch 1, sc in dc, ch 1, *sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 3, skip ch 1 sp; rep from * across to last 2 ch 1 sps, sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 3, sc in last ch 1 sp, ch 1, sc in top of tch, turn.

6. Row 6

   ch 1, sc in sc, *shell in ch 3 sp, sc spike over ch 3 sp and in ch 1 sp 1 row below; rep from * across to last ch 3 sp, shell in last ch 3 sp, sc in last sc, turn.

Repeat rows 3-6 until you have reached your desired length.
