Sidewinder Free

This pattern started as an experiment with shaping a hat using short rows. The result was far more interesting than I expected.

Sidewinder Free is a regular length, free version of our Sidewinder+ Slouchy Beanie. This hat is knit flat using short rows to create a unique reversible hat where garter stitch mimics ribbing.

And since it’s all knit stitches, it can be made in just a few hours. A perfect last minute gift!

This hat pattern is available for free as a thank you for sharing it on Facebook or Twitter. Use the following links to share the pattern with your friends on one of those networks. After sharing you will be given a link to download the pattern. Only the links below will allow you to download the pattern:

    Hi Jonny,
I’m Paulo Domingos from Brazil. I’m musician and knitter too :-) I tried to knit this pattern but I think I’m doing something wrong. The top of the hat is not going like the photo and I didn’t understand the part of finishing (End 6th panel after W&T rows. Do not work the last 2 rows.Pick up CO row, remove waste yarn, graft with last row
picking up wraps as you go.Block, weave in ends)

Sorry for my bad english. If you can help me I’d be very glad.

    Greetings from Brazil

    Paulo

Hi Paulo. Can you be more specific about what exactly you do not understand. Thanks.

        April 9, 2013

Hi Johnny, thank you for your reply

I’ll try to explain but my english is terrible (do you speak Spanish?)
I had dificulties finishing the hat (the invisible sewing) and I don’t know how to put the yarn trough the loops(points) to close the top of the hat. I hope you can understand me, and thank you very much for your attention.

        Paulo
