This video crochet tutorial will help you learn how to crochet the Clever Blocks Stitch. This unique crochet pattern creates a multi colored checkered fabric that is great for afghans and scarves.
For this stitch you will need 3 colors. Work one row each of colors A, B and C throughout, carrying yarn loosely up the sides.
Skill: Experienced
Foundation Chain: Multiples of 6 + 5 in color A
TECHNIQUES USED IN THIS STITCH:
Chain Stitch – ch
Double Crochet – dc
Pattern Instructions:
Prep Row: With color A, 1 dc in 4th chain from hook, 1 dc in ext ch, *ch 3, skip next 3ch, 1 dc in each of the next 3ch, rep from * across, turn. Drop color A, draw color B through last loop.
Row 1: With color B, ch 3, skip next 3dc, *working over next 3ch sp, 1 dc in each of next 3 skipped ch in foundation ch, ch 3, skip next 3 dc, rep from * across, 1 sc in top of tch, turn. Drop color B; draw color C through last loop.
Row 2: With color C, ch3 (counts as first dc), skip first st, working over 3 ch sp, 1dc in each of next 2 skipped dc two rows below, *ch3, skip 3 sts, working over next 3 ch sp, 1 dc in each of next 3 skipped dc two rows below, rep from * across, turn. Drop color C, draw color A through last loop.
Repeat rows 2 – 3 alternating colors A, B and C throughout until you have reached your desired length.
