How to Knit: The Fishtail Lace Stitch

The fishtail lace stitch is a vertical lace stitch that gives the appearance of a row of fishtails.

Skill: Intermediate

Cast On: Multiples of 8 + 1

For this stitch you will need to know the following techniques:

Knit – k

Purl – p

Yarn Over – yo

Slip Stitch – sl

Pass Slipped Stitch Over – psso

Knit Two Together – k2tog

Pattern:

Row 1(RS): K1, * yo, k2, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo ,k1; rep from * to end.

Row 2: Purl

Row 3: K2, * yo, k1 sl 1 k2tog, psso, k1, yo, k3; rep from * to last 7 sts, yo, k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k1, yo, k2.

Row 4: Purl

Row 5: K3, * yo, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k5; rep from * to last 6 sts, yo, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k3.

Row 6: Purl

Repeat Rows 1-6 until you have reached your desired length.

After a few repeats your pattern should look like this:
