How to Knit: Cabling Without a Cable Needle

This video knitting tutorial will help you learn how to knit a cable without a cable needle. Some people find it difficult to manipulate their knitting needles while holding a cable needle. Luckily there is a simple way to cable without needle a cable needle.

Skill: Intermediate

To cable without using a cable needle, you must switch the position of the stitch on you main needle.

Cable Front

Step 1: Slip the first set of stitches from your main needle to your working needle. Example: remove 3 stitches for a C6F or 1 stitch for a C2F

Step 2: Remove the next set of stitches from your main needle.

Step 3: Place the stitches on you working needle back onto your main needle, making sure they are in front of the other set of stitches.

Step 4: Place the second set of stitches on your main needle, making sure they are behind the other set of stitches.

Step 5: Work the stitches as normal.

Cable Back

Step 1: Slip the first set of stitches from your main needle to your working needle. Example: remove 3 stitches for a C6B or 1 stitch for a C2B

Step 2: Remove the next set of stitches from your main needle.

Step 3: Place the stitches on you working needle back onto your main needle, making sure they are behind the other set of stitches.

Step 4: Place the second set of stitches on your main needle, making sure they are in front of the other set of stitches.

Step 5: Work the stitches as normal.
