How to Knit the Open-Work Ladder Stitch

This video knitting tutorial will help you learn how to knit the open-work ladder stitch. This pattern uses wrapped stitches to create horizontal bars between stockinette panels. The result is an open mesh fabric, perfect for blankets and shawls.

Skill: Intermediate

Cast On: Multiples of 10 + 6

For this pattern you will need to know the following techniques:

Knit – k

Purl – p

Knit Two Together – k2tog

Knit Two Together Through the Back Loop – k2tog tbl

Pattern:

Row 1 (WS): P6 *k2tog tbl, wrap yarn twice, k2tog, p6; Rep from * to end.

Row 2: K6 *p1, p1 into first part of wrap, k1 into second part of wrap, p1, k6; Rep from * to end.

Repeat rows 1 – 2 until you have reached your desired length.

After a few repeats your pattern should look like this:
