I have to correct you on the name for this stitch. It is actually spelled “Fagot”, based on the original meaning of the word (i.e. a bundle of sticks). The spelling “faggot” is a derogatory term for gay men. Thanks for your attention to this.

There are multiple books and online resources, including the Barbara Walker Treasury, that show this to be the correct spelling. We merely used the terminology that was presented in our resources.
I am aware of the connotation of the word, but the stitch has been spelled like this for much longer than the word has been used in a derogatory way.
