[Note #1: In case you’re wondering, this post is a follow-up to this post (which received more comments than I’ve ever received on this site). I try my best to respond to each and every comment, BTW].
[Note #2: The purpose of this post is to give away a $30 online class. We developed it based on some of your requests, and now are giving it away as a way to bribe you to participate in a "virtual focus group" that I'll be running in a couple of days].
[Note #3: This post is long. If you just want the free class, scroll to the bottom. I'd advise against that, however].
I tried to respond to every comment immediately, and it was great hearing your excitement for what we’ve got coming.
Anyway, I ended the last post with a cliffhanger.
We actually had people unsubscribe from our email list because of it. Oops.
So, at last, I’m thrilled to announce that New Stitch a Day is going to be doing something completely…well…new.
OUR NEW DIRECTION
At New Stitch a Day my goal has been to provide knitters and crocheters from around the world the easiest to follow video learning resources to improve their craft.
So far we’ve done that to GREAT success with our free daily stitch tutorials.
OUR KNITTING AND CROCHET VIDEOS ARE THE BEST, MOST CLEAR, AND EASY TO FOLLOW TUTORIALS ON THE INTERNET…PERIOD
And I don’t say that lightly. Hundreds of you have emailed, commented, and tweeted telling me how much you appreciate the quality of our content.
Here’s a few examples:
@newstitchaday I can't keep up with all the great stitches! I have 7 projects going right now, and about 5 stitches bookmarked for later!

@newstitchaday thanks for all of the interesting and clear information. I read and watch your e-mails daily! Good job. well done!

I love all your videos. Thank you for taking the time for doing this for all of who have a great love for yarn.
Anna from Oregon
I have found your video tutorials to be some of the best available when I’m in a jam. I own a LYS and have used your quick, easy fixes more than once to help a customer when I’m not available or just don’t know what to do! Thanks so much!

I love this. It is clear, concise, and slow enough to really help. I’m so glad I found Stitch a Day videos. I am learning new stitches and methods all the time. Thank you very much!!

Just recently found yr site. Thanks for the clear way you show each movement. It’s been a long time since I “tried” to knit. I really want to try again, but definitely need these tutorials. (thank you, also for having a good manicure! :-))

The funny thing about that last comment is . . .
I bite my nails.
But regardless of how my fingers are groomed, it is because of your support and enthusiasm for this site that we’ve been able to get to where we are!
Now we’re ready to take the next step . . .
WE TRULY WANT TO HELP YOU TAKE YOUR CRAFT TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Our team is committed to providing you incredible, simple, and easy to follow education resources.
So, without further ado, the next big step is . . .
Classes . . .
. . . EVERY WEEK! TWICE A WEEK!
These classes will cover topics that we can’t fit into a 5 minute video tutorial. They will take the skills we have been helping you develop in our daily videos, and combine them to teach you more complicated patterns.
Not only will we cover the topics that you have been requesting for months, but you will be able to learn directly from me, the founder of New Stitch a Day, and eventually, other famous knitting and crochet teachers or even members of our own community.
WHERE NEW STITCH A DAY STARTED, AND WHERE WE ARE TODAY
A year and a half ago, I got a stitch dictionary as a gift for Christmas, and a small spark of an idea for a knitting site.
Today we have made more than 300 video tutorials with almost 3/4 of a million views!
25,000+ people visit our site every month and about 7,000 of you get our email updates every day.
Our community is made up from people all over the world from ages 8 to 83 and it is the lifeblood of this site.
SO WE’LL BE CO-CREATING THESE CLASSES WITH YOU
What does that mean?
- It means that you’ll decide what our first classes are
- You’ll decide what future topics you want us to cover
- And you’ll ultimately decide what we do and what we don’t do
WHY WE GOT OURSELVES INTO THIS MESS
The reason we’re doing LIVE online classes is . . .
. . . no one else is.
Sure you can buy a DVD and watch it on your TV and follow along. There are even places you can get classes online, and some of them are pretty good. We think those things are great.
But what happens when you get stuck on a certain line of a pattern?
How do you show a TV or computer screen your work and get the teacher to help you improve?
Where is the sense of community you get from a class full of people?
THE PROBLEM IS THAT ALL THESE OTHER SITES DON’T LET YOU INTERACT WITH THE TEACHER, OR STUDENTS . . . IN REAL TIME . . .
WHAT WE’RE DOING DIFFERENTLY
We are going to work with you to create the classes that you want to see.
Each class will run between 2 and 3 hours, and will be an in depth exploration of things like brioche knitting, fair isle color work, broomstick lace, and crochet amigurumi.
Our plan is to put on one knitting class and one crochet class each week, and you will help decide what classes we do.
Every month we will list 6 knitting and 6 crochet topics that you suggest. You will get to vote for your favorites, and the top four will be turned into classes for the next month!
But the best part is . . .
You get to interact live with a teacher in real time.
During our classes you can:
- Ask questions and get immediate answers
- Use a webcam to show and get feedback on your work
- Stare at my beautiful face
You will also get a recording of the class for you to review on your own time, at your own pace.
PLUS, the classes will be limited to 25 people, so you will get the individual attention you deserve.
We think this is such an awesome idea, we’re gonna celebrate.
SO WE’RE GIVING AWAY A FREE CLASS
The class is called Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Yarn, But Were Afraid To Ask (note: This will not be a LIVE class because we can’t fit you all into the limited spots our LIVE classes will have).
In this class you will learn:
- What makes Merino Wool the one yarn to rule them all
- The secret to blocking acrylic yarn without melting it
- Why you shouldn’t knit with 100% angora
- The good, the bad, and the Alpaca
It’s going to be an information packed class that I know everyone will get something out of.
HOW TO GET OUR FREE ONLINE CLASS
In order to join our ”virtual focus group” get our free online class (Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Yarn, But Were Afraid To Ask), do the following . . .
2. Then follow the instructions that show up in your inbox
That’s all. (When you opt-in you’ll get access to our virtual focus group, get occasional behind-the-scenes stuff that we’re not sharing publicly on the site, etc.).
Everyone who opts-in is going to get an incredibly useful class when we’re ready to release it next week. For free (it’s something we’re going to sell down the road).
You won’t be getting a crappy bullet pointed PDF. You’ll be getting great content that will increase your knowledge and improve your craft.
We just value your opinion that much. And we’re willing to bribe you with high quality stuff in order to get it.
