This video crochet tutorial will help you learn how to crochet a button. This pattern creates a small round button that can be made larger or smaller by the size of yarn and crochet hook you use. A crocheted button is great for matching buttons perfectly to your project!

TECHNIQUES USED IN THIS STITCH:

Chain Stitch – Ch
Slip Stitch – Sl st
Single Crochet – Sc

Skill: Intermediate

Pattern Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Make a large loop by placing the yarn tail behind the working yarn, leave a 6 inch tail.

  2. Step 2

    Insert the hook through the front of the loop and pull the working yarn through.

  3. Step 3

    Chain 1.

  4. Step 4

    5sc into loop, pull tail to close loop.

  5. Step 5

    Complete the circle by slipping into 1st single crochet, Ch1.

  6. Step 6

    Sc into same sc as slipped into, sc twice into each stitch, close the circle by slipping into 1st sc, Ch1.

  7. Step 7

    Sc into each st, Close the circle by slipping into 1st sc, Ch 1.

  8. Step 8

    Decrease round: Insert hook into next st and pull through a loop (2 loops on hook). Insert hook into next stitch and pull through a loop (3 loops on hook). YO, and pull through all loops. Repeat to end of round.

  9. Step 9

    Leaving about 12 inches, cut yarn and fasten off. Stuff all (for a fat button), or some (for a flatter button), of the 1st tail into center of button.

  10. Step 7

    With 2nd tail, sew closed and attach to your project.
