How to Knit the Fluted Fabric Stitch

Continental Style

This video knitting tutorial will help you learn how to knit in the fluted fabric stitch. This is a woven rib pattern that creates a slightly dense fabric that is reversible. It’s great for afghans and sweaters or anything that could benefit from a more structured fabric.

Skill: Beginner

Cast On: Multiples of 4 + 1

For this pattern you will need to know the following techniques:

Knit – k

Purl – p

Slip Stitch – sl

With Yarn in Front – wyif

With Yarn in Back – wyib

Pattern:

Row 1 (RS): P1, *k1, sl 1 wyif, k1, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 2: K1, *sl 1 wyib, p1, sl 1 wyib, k1; rep from * to end

Repeat rows 1 – 2 until you have reached your desired length.

After a few repeats your pattern should look like this:
