This video knitting tutorial will help you learn how to knit Elizabeth Zimmermann’s sewn bind off. This method of casting off was developed to compliment the look of the long tail cast on. By sewing the tail of your yarn through the stitches, you can create a finished edge that perfectly mirrors the long tail.

Skill: Beginner

Instructions:

You will want a tail that is at least 2-3 times the length of your finished edge.

Step 1: After threading your tail through the darning needle, insert the needle through the first two stitches on your main needle, purlwise, and pull tight.

Step 2: Take the darning needle and insert it into the first stitch on your main needle, knitwise. Pull through and pull tight.

Step 3: Pull the first stitch off the main needle.

Repeat steps 1 – 3 until you have cast off all your stitches.

It’s just plain stockinette. The yarn is Lion Brand Superwash Merino Cashmere. That’s what give it the distinct look.
