How to Knit the Box Stitch

This video knitting tutorial will help you learn how to knit the box stitch. This pattern is similar to the seed stitch since it alternates knits and purls but in a 2×2 pattern rather than 1×1. The result is a checkered texture that is great for washcloths, pillows, and scarves.

Skill: Easy

Cast On: Multiples of 4 + 2

For this pattern you will need to know the following techniques:

Knit – k

Purl – p

Pattern:

Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Row 3: Rep row 2

Row 4: Rep row 1

Repeat rows 1 – 4 until you have reached your desired length.

After a few repeats your pattern should look like this:
